Computers that are left switched on are using energy all the time, even when they are in standby mode. Switching off computers when not in use makes sense not only because it saves money, but it also counts towards your establishment's carbon footprint.
While we can't always get the users to switch their computer off when they have finished with it, we can now make sure that all computers are switched off overnight by using the CSE Station Startup and Shutdown scheduled service.
You can create schedules that will turn off specified computers on set days of the week and at specified times. Running evening classes on Monday nights; the IT suite computers can be scheduled to switch off a 10pm instead of 6pm on Mondays only.
The system can also switch on stations using a schedule, so that if you want to deploy a new application to a room full of computers, you can schedule to switch the machines on at midnight, give the application time to deploy and then automatically logoff and shutdown the stations, making it ready for use first thing the next morning.
