Innovative ICT solutions for a pioneering
new school

The school is being built on the University’s Selly Oak site.

We’re very pleased to announce that CSE have been awarded the ICT contract for The University of Birmingham School.

The pioneering new state school, opening in September 2015, is located in new, purpose-built buildings. The University of Birmingham School will be a comprehensive, co-educational state school for children aged 11-16 from across Birmingham with an academically-selective Sixth Form.

The School is the first secondary University Training School (UTS) in the country, which will work closely with academics from the University’s School of Education and will have an especially sophisticated range of digital and IT services, facilitating close collaboration between teaching professionals on global and national levels.

The School has already seen high levels of demand for year 7 entry, with around 1000 applications for 150 student places, and is expecting similarly high levels of interest in its teaching places, not least because it will offer one of the most ICT integrated and literate teaching environments in the country.

Gordon Derham, MD of CSE said: “We’re delighted to be working with the University of Birmingham School. We offer both twenty years’ experience serving the education market, and innovation through our new products such as Magellan.

“Magellan will play an important part in helping the school deliver its mission, dramatically reducing time spent on administrative tasks and creating universal, streamlined access to the leading edge ICT solutions and engagement for students and staff.

“Our approach puts teaching and learning first reflecting what the new school will be all about as a centre for teaching excellence.”

“I’m really pleased that we have found an IT provider who can deliver this most important part of our School. We want our School to be outstanding in every way and we need a state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure which will support the plentiful equipment and software which we will be using in School and allow us to incorporate the best technology into our teaching and learning approaches.”Michael Roden, Principal of the University of Birmingham School
